McLaren honours Senna
McLaren is celebrating 30 years of Ayrton Senna’s legacy with a vibrant tribute that captures his personality and his achievements, including his three Formula 1 World Championships and five Monaco Grand Prix victories with the Woking-based team. This includes a special livery for the MCL38 Formula 1 cars, driven by Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri at the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix, and the Senna Sempre livery on a pre-production McLaren Senna from McLaren’s heritage collection.
The Senna Sempre livery, part of McLaren’s association with the Ayrton Senna Institute, showcases McLaren Special Operations' (MSO) craftsmanship. It features bold graphics celebrating Senna’s Formula 1 career, his Brazilian heritage, and his McLaren racing history. The McLaren Senna, designed for ultimate track performance, bears Senna’s name and the ‘Double S’ logo, with intricate paintwork reflecting his legacy.
The livery incorporates the colours of the Brazilian flag – yellow, green, and blue – using a wash technique that blends the colours smoothly, evoking the movement of a waving flag. The car's design also includes green and white border lines inspired by Senna’s helmet, and detailed representations of Senna himself, applied with a dot matrix effect on the side panels.
Senna’s record six Monaco Grand Prix victories are symbolised by watermarks of the race numbers from his McLaren racing cars. Additionally, the McLaren Formula 1 Team will honour Senna with a special livery for the MCL38 in Monaco, featuring the vibrant colours inspired by Senna’s helmet, replacing the standard livery to celebrate his life and legacy.
