1964 Lotus Type 34

This 1964 Lotus Type 34, driven by AJ Foyt, Parnelli Jones, Dan Gurney and Jim Clark in the Indianapolis 500, is truly iconic. It was during a time that the Indianapolis 500 was dominated by heavyweight front-engined cars, and Type 34 was one of the first to buck the trend, running a lightweight rear-engine arrangement that came out of a Lotus-Ford partnership. It represents the glorious days of Lotus as a four-time USAC race winner, eight-time USAC pole winner and Indy 500 pole sitter. Only two Type 34s are still in existence: one is in the Indianapolis Speedway Museum and the other is this Chassis No. 2 on offer at Quail later this week.

Bonhams will be offering this example, at their upcoming Quail Lodge Auction on the 18th August, its estimated value is between $1,800,000 – $2,500,000. For more information on this and other vehicles at the sale, click on the link below. Photos courtesy of Bonhams.
